Mother's day, a special day in our country, indeed celebrated by most of the world. For some this long celebrated day brings joy, happiness and good feelings and at the same time, for others the day brings sadness, anger and stress.
How could one day be so different for so many?
We all have varying relationships with our mothers and therefore varying feelings accompany the specific relationship we each have with our moms.
I personally have a great relationship with my mom. She has always been nurturing, caring, generous, kind, hospitable, helpful, faithful, committed, and just plain perfect. Well not really, but you get the picture. She is a great mom by all standards, however imperfect since no one is perfect.
The ability to hold space, whether positive or negative, for our mom maybe a healthy medium we could make to heal the past or simply enjoy the present. The idea could be to embrace any feeling you have and accept what it means to you and what you value. Hold the feeling without feeling judged, shamed or guilty. Work through those "mom" feelings, ideas or thoughts simply your way, on your term and in your time.
Elizabeth Elliot once said" in acceptance lies peace". What a statement! Accepting what is and not resisting what was or could be, just what is now the present!
Whatever the relationship or what feeling the day brings to you, may mother's
everywhere know that without them we would not be here today!
Happy Mother's day mom! I love you.
